Systematic Review
Longer Bisphosphonate Use Has Tradeoffs
This systematic review found that extending oral bisphosphonate therapy beyond five years may increase bone mineral density, but evidence for fracture reduction was limited and prolonged use was linked with atypical fracture concerns. Women considering long-term osteoporosis medication should review bone density, fracture history, and adverse-event risk with their clinician.
