Hot Flashes and Night Sweats Strongly Linked to Anxiety and Depression.
Vasomotor symptoms (hot flashes and night sweats) are strongly and consistently associated with depressive symptoms and anxiety. Women with more frequent and severe hot flashes had higher rates of depression (up to 58%) and anxiety (up to 52%), with the worst anxiety seen in those who also had sleep disturbances.
