Heavy Strength Training Preserves Bone and Muscle at Menopause
A randomized controlled feasibility trial of 40 peri- and early postmenopausal women showed that nine months of twice-weekly heavy strength and impact training significantly increased lean mass, leg power, and lumbar spine bone mineral density compared to a waitlisted control group. These results support progressive resistance training as an effective strategy to counteract bone and muscle loss during the menopause transition.
